Imagine being both cute, brave, determined and swag all at the same time! I loved this character so much. Gidget - The literal MVP of this entire movie. Though I did grow to sympathise with him, having been separated from his owner.Īdded onto the realisation of his owner passing during the house visit, that was a very sad, well-crafted scene! Again, both of them helping one another is definitely a plus in my book! Good boy.ĭuke - I was genuinely terrified of this guy when he was shooting daggers at Max in the beginning as he could very well, hurt anyone that stands in his way. Overall, while maybe not as great as Bolt, he still has a heart of gold for his loved ones. The risk Max was willing to take in the hanging van climax scene is definitely something I loved! HOWEVER, what redeems him is his character development! Time and time again, they save each other from harm despite their differences which is what I always like to see in movies! I felt that Max sabotaging Duke though, was pretty mean and harsh.
Having lived his whole life solo, I can understand why he opposes Duke as you get older, you generally have a harder time breaking out of old habits. Max - First of all, GREAT, cute design! Next, I found his relationship with Kate so adorable! His monologuing at the start of the movie was really great in establishing himself as a loyal, caring pet! Therefore I'll only cover some characters which I believe are important to the plot. My attention was split between many different pets and I kind of wanted more Max and Duke screentime.
I'm a big believer of simplicity is key and a small cast is always the right way to go for any sort of movie IMO. A pretty visible problem with this film was that there were WAY too many animals that were taking turns to speak. I am sad to say this, but I just wasn't interested in a large majority of the animal characters.
